There are several kinds of Tarot Readers. Nowadays they even aren't necessarily human anymore.
In this article I give an overview of the types of Tarot Readers as I see it.

Intuitive Tarot Readers

This are the Tarot Readers who learned to listen to, and have confidence in, their intuition.
Without any doubt the intuitive Tarot Reader will give you the most complete reading.
Intuition is a difficult notion. Many people think it is the same as premonition, the feeling that something will happen. But intuition is much more than that. Intuition is knowing something. And this is not the knowledge you gain by studying. It's the knowledge that simply is there. It comes from somewhere deep inside yourself. It is the Buddhi from Theosophy.
Every human is born with this talent of intuition. But only few of them can use it. They are not aware of it or they don't "dare" to have confidence in it.
Not every Tarot Reader has developed this talent. And even less of them can use this special knowledge right from the beginning. They have to train it. And even more important: they have to learn to have true confidence in their intuition.
It's not always easy to recognize an intuitive Tarot Reader. Unless of course you developed your own intuition. But why would you consult a Tarot Reader then?
Anyway, if the explanation of his reading touches you innerly - if you feel connected with the reading - then most probably you consulted an intuitive Tarot Reader.

Formal Tarot Readers

This are the Tarot Readers that have not (yet) developed their intuition. It's obvious that their readings are not as complete as the reading of an intuitive Tarot Reader.
They interpret the cards "from the book". They combine the explanations until they find a plausible story.
If a formal Tarot Reader has the right spirit, he will become intuitive. His intuition will develop bit by bit. And if he can also take the bridge of having confidence in his intuition, he will reach his goal.
I think that most intuitive Tarot Readers started this way.

On-Line Readings

By this I don't mean persons that gives you a Tarot Reading on-line. A living person could use a chat room, MSN messenger,... to give you a reading.
What I mean here is the automated tarot readings you can get everywhere on the internet.
By definition, a computer is not born with intuition. It will never develop it. So you shouldn't expect to receive an intuitive Tarot Reading from a computer.
You will not even receive a true formal reading from a program like that. In practice it is impossible to program all the possible relations between the cards in a spread.
A program like that only shows you the different explanations of all the cards in the spread. And those were programmed by a human.
You shouldn't expect much help from this kind of reading. Unless you developed your own intuition. But again: why would you consult a Tarot Reader then?
